Northwest Seaport

Northwest Seaport is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime heritage of Puget Sound and the Northwest Coast, and to the development of maritime-based educational programs and opportunities for the broad community.

Join Northwest Seaport in exploring Pacific Northwest maritime heritage through the vessels that helped build it. The historic fleet includes the 1889 tugboat Arthur Foss, the 1897 Pacific schooner Wawona, and the 1904 Lightship #83, all of which voyaged Puget Sound and the Pacific Ocean during their working careers.

What We Do

  • Father and son in the boiler room of a shipEngineer for a Day: kick the tires and light the fires onboard the tugboat Arthur Foss and the fireboat Duwamish, then learn about steam engines on the passenger ferry Virginia V and the Lightship #83
  • Field Trips: learn about maritime heritage in groups through the boats that helped build it
  • Tugboat Experience Program: stay aboard the Arthur Foss and learn first-hand how tugboat crews live past and present
  • Tugboat Story Time: join other pre-schoolers and parents to hear maritime-themed picture books read aloud in the Arthur Foss’s galley
  • Maritime Workshops: join shipwrights, surveyors, and marine mechanics in repairing the Arthur Foss’s Douglas Fir hull and 1934 diesel engine
  • Maritime Music and Chanty Sings: enjoy concerts that feature local-, regional-, and nationally-known performers
  • Festivals: celebrate all things maritime on the Wharf and in Seattle neighborhoods to showcase our historic vessels

Get Involved
