Fremont Avenue Ice Cream Cruises are a Treat!
Rain, wind, sun or snow....we go. The little ferry Fremont Avenue is in it's 10th year of operation and in it's third year of operation from (South) Lake Union Park. The Sunday Ice Cream Cruise is a year round event. This 45-50 minute tour of Lake Union is a favorite for Seattle area, regional guests and tourists. The tour is lightly and humorously narrated with plenty of time between narrated sites to just sit back and enjoy the views and some funky old music while working on a chocolate root beer float or other ice cream treats. Hot chocolate and hot tomato soup also available in the winter.
The tables and stools in the heated main cabin have been painted by guests and friends of the Fremont Avenue. Chess and checkers games on painted checkerboard tables are ready for youngsters to challenge their parents. Blankets are available on the upper viewing deck. The pilot house is open for guests to view and enjoy the piloting skills required to navigate our busy Lake Union. The Fremont Avenue is a USCG licensed small passenger ship authorized to carry up to 42 guests.
The m/v Fremont Avenue has been called the 'Lake Union Love Boat' and the 'Vee Five Light' by the Virgina V steamboat crew because of her resemblance to the Virginia V.
On the tour you will visit over 400 floating homes, peek into Dale Chiluly's windows, view the Sleepless in Seattle houseboat, Gas Works Park and get a picture of the Seattle skyline that can only be seen from Lake Union.
As they say in the ice cream business....so what's the scoop? The Fremont Avenue sails on the hour 11am through 3pm every Sunday in the winter and 11am through 5pm in the summer. Fares are $11 for adults, $7 for kids 5-13 and under 5 $2. Ice cream and other treats are $2 to $4 in the galley. Come 10 to 15 minutes before the hour for boarding. Payment by check or cash only.
